My Sunflower project.
This is a project I started several years ago. Where I've been capturing sunflowers in their differant state here in Colorado. There is only a month or so when sunflowers are at their peak and would make for good looking images. The project started as a fluke, really. I was ill, board and I couldn't go anywhere. We were working on our back yard, and I had to stop for awhile. In the unfinished work, sunflowers started growing. I took some pictures and started playing around with them. I started to see the beauty of these, to most, weeds. I looked into them and found out that they follow the sun as their larger namesake does.
At about the same time, I had started exploring painting. I always liked painting, but was never really good at it. With digital brushes in software, I can come close to a presentation of my liking. I have been working on this type of presentation for about two years. I would not call it a traditional painting, nor am I a painter. More like digital art using the images I took and creating a process to have a presentation somewhat like a painting.
This process, spilled onto the sunflower project. I was able to add brush strokes, textures and other details to the underlying sunflower image. It opened up another world for me. Some of them turned out to be spiritual in nature. A differant presentation that is another part of me. I have been working on this project for over three years now, maybe, even longer. The more I go out and shoot, the more I see varying compositions. Coupled that to my painting processing, this maybe my life long project. I hope you enjoy it.
You can go here to see some of the work I have prepared this year. I will be adding more as time goes on.
